Shirley Elizabeth Whynot

WHYNOT – Shirley Elizabeth,  80, of Brooklyn, Queens County, passed away peacefully in Queens General Hospital, Liverpool on Thursday, August 13, 2015.

Born in Liverpool, she was a daughter of the late Walter and Eleanor (Conrad) Wells.

Shirley will always be remembered for the love she had for her family and friends and her active faith. Her kind, gentle ways, her sense of humor and generosity endeared her to all who knew her. She had a youthful spirit and loved being with young and old alike.

She was a devoted wife, mother, grandmother and friend who put more focus on people than material possessions. Gathering people together for celebrations gave her great joy. Her church family enjoyed her monthly birthday Sundays and cards. Her annual summer family reunions were looked forward to by many.

Throughout her life, she loved the outdoors and the seasons. Being close to nature was a passion. She enjoyed gardening, animals, especially birds, snowmobiling and the family cabin on the lake in LaBelle. She enjoyed drawing, knitting, cooking and music.

She was an active member of St. Andrew’s Anglican Church, Brooklyn where she sang in the choir, served on the Altar Guild and, throughout the years, had been involved with Sunday School and Youth Group.

She was a former sales clerk with Stedman’s Department Store for over 13 years.

She is survived by her daughter Anne (Allan) Laws of Beach Meadows; her son Calvin at home; her grandchildren Matthew and Beth Laws; her sisters Muriel Whynot of Liverpool; Carol (Alan) Croft of Kennetcook; her brothers William (Rita) Wells of Bedford; Roger (Lorraine) Wells of Elliot Lake, ON; James (Charlotte) Wells of Liverpool.
