Wayne Thomas Boutilier better known as “Boe” 77 of Milton, Queens County passed away at Queens General Hospital  on May 23, 2024 with his daughter and son in law  by his side. Boe was the son of the late Ralph and Kathleen (Whynot) Boutilier.  He lived his entire life in Milton at the family homestead on the very land he was born on in 1946. All of his mother’s siblings homes surrounded his homestead and as such he, beloved sister Shirley and brother Richard had the blessing to grow up with all of his cousins.  He loved them all and often told stories from their childhood.  His Cousin Irv remained his next door neighbour their entire lives. Irv rarely missed a day visiting, often they argued but it was easily forgotten.  They were best friends whether they cared to admit it or not. Darren your visits over the years meant so much to him. You were a steadfast friend.

As a teenager he enjoyed canoeing and water sports. He loved to talk about his travels to many sports meets especially at Beaverdam with his childhood friend Frank Legge. Just last summer he sat at Morton’s Wharf and coached his granddaughter Ella as she practiced her buoy turns for the Labour Day Canoe races.

In 1970 he attended Vocational school in Cape Breton, the same year his daughter Charmaine was born, a year later his son Michael came along. He graduated with a trade in Sign Painting but like his father he was a jack of all trades, fixing and making anything.  He worked mainly as a carpenter and cabinet maker but when motivated painted pictures and built handmade guitars.

Later he met his partner Marilyn and her son Mark whom he raised as his own. He became Grampy Boe to Abel, Angus and Ella, Bampie to Lydia and Molly and a great Bampie to Francine. He was proud of all his grandchildren and loved to hear of their accomplishments. He talked deer hunting with Abel and looked forward to getting his annual supply of deer burger. He loved that Angus Boe took after him with his music ability and recently made him a 12 string guitar. He was so proud Ella had gotten his artistic and creative talents and loved to hear  of her many adventures. He was equally proud that Molly took up painting and proudly displayed her works. He often spoke of what a great mom Lydia had become and loved his visits from Francine.

He and Marilyn enjoyed many good years and loved having family come to the house for their legendary turkey dinners, hot sandwiches and home fries. Like his father Boe was an excellent cook and baker. His coconut cream pies came in only second to Wong’s, which he readily admitted. He carried on Ralph’s  tradition of baking the butterhorns at Christmas, one that he has now passed down to his daughter.  We will always cherish the many family dinners together and guaranteed no one will ever forget that good gravy.

Boe was well known for his guitar picking skills, a passion he carried with him his entire life  but it was his Banjo that brought him  and so many others much joy. He taught himself to play watching VHS videos and visiting Milfie up the back road whom he said was one of the best banjo players around.  He loved playing at jams and attending music events with his group known as Boe Boutilier & Friends. Many played with him over the years. His time playing Terry Doucette was often remembered and of course his trusty sidekick the late Junior Williams. No one will ever make a banjo ring the way my dad did.

Boe was a friend to many, always lending a helping hand to anyone in need. He always had a place at the table for anyone lonesome during the holidays. There wasn’t anything he loved better than drop ins to come for a visit.

Boe not only helped look after his mother and father in their final years but he moved into the homestead to provide personal care for his older brother Richard for 25 years.  The last few years he assisted Marilyn as best he could with her health struggles. Right to the end his worries were for her.  It’s your time to rest now Boe. As one of your favourite songs goes you are  “Home Sweet Home”.

He is survived by his companion Marilyn Whynot, daughter Charmaine (Duane) Stevens, step son Mark (Charlene) Whynot, grandchildren Abel, Angus (Gabby) and Ella (Hunter) Stevens, Lydia (Jesse) Myalls, Molly Whynot and Great granddaughter Francine Myalls. He was predeceased by his son Michael, brother Richard and sister Shirley MacAdams.

Cremation has taken place under the direction of Chandlers’ Funeral Home, Liverpool where a funeral service will be held Monday, June 3, 2024 at 11:00 a.m. followed by a reception. Burial will be in Milton Community Cemetery. No flowers, donations may be made to Queens County Food Bank. Online condolences may be made below.

Many thanks to Dr. Blackadar who provided excellent care for him for the past 21 years. To the team at Queens General the care he received was second to none. He often commented “No one knows how run off their feet them Nurses are”. Much thanks to Dr. Freeman for her caring and compassion during his final journey. Crystal from the kitchen you brought such a bright energy every time you entered the room, thank you.
