VAN NORDEN – Madaleen M., beloved mother, grandmother and great-grandmother passed away peacefully with her family by her side on October 1st, 2013 at Mahone Bay Nursing Home.
Born January 7, 1934, she was a daughter of the late William and Lottie May (Munro) Callahan.
Madaleen married Asa VanNorden in 1952 and ran Ace Taxi for over 30 years. Madaleen returned to work at Stedman’s, Worthmore and Peoples where she retired in 1994. Madaleen loved to fish and hunt, playing cards and bingo, doing card tricks for her grandchildren, knitting everything from sweaters, socks to blankets. Madaleen loved doing ceramics and her family will always cherish her works of art.
She leaves behind her daughter Melinda (Paul) Hilchey of Bridgewater, her son Roger (Elizabeth Schnare) of Mersey Point. Her grandchildren Dan (Tomomi) Hilchey of Japan, Laura (Adam) Cook of West Dublin, Andrew (Gloria) VanNorden of Fredericton, NB., Latisha (Tyler) Hoadley of Kingston, ON., great-grandchildren Sam, Bennett and Wilson Cook, Hinako and Honoka Hilchey and Tyla and Aiden Hoadley.
She was predeceased by her husband Asa; sister Marie Cunningham, as well as a sister and two brothers in infancy.
Cremation has taken place under the direction of Chandlers’ Funeral Home, Liverpool. A private family graveside service will be held at a later date in Zion United Cemetery, Payzant Street, Liverpool. No flowers by request, donations may be made to any charity.
