Harland Ross Turner

Turner, Harland Ross,  of Liverpool.  We are saddened to announce his passing on Saturday, January 17th, 2015, after a very short but courageous battle with cancer, at Queens General Hospital in Liverpool, where he was surrounded by family and friends 24/7.

Harland was born in Liverpool, the youngest son of Emelie and the late Lester Turner.

Upon his fathers death, he returned home to assume the family business and care for his Mom, which he did faithfully up to the day prior to his passing. He also began his own successful towing company. To those who knew Harland he had a heart as big as all outdoors and was a lover of animals. He was always there to lend a helping hand when needed, never saying no to anyone. His beautiful mischievous grin could light up any room and his sense of humor brought laughter to many.

In his younger years, he was a dedicated athletic and an accomplished equestrian. He continued to play basketball for enjoyment with a men’s group upon his return home. A country boy at heart, he was happiest at his little cabin that he built himself in Chelsea and clearing his land.

He is survived by his mom, Emelie Turner of Ridgewood Retirement home, Bridgewater, his older brother Kevin (Candy) of Vancouver and his niece Chennyne Lamrock of Eagle Head (Acadia University) whom he adored.

He was predeceased by his father Lester and his brother Quentin.

A graveside service will be held at a later date as per his request. Memorial donations  may be made to The Lodge That Gives, 5826 South Street, Halifax, NS B3H-1S6. At this time we gratefully acknowledge the following: All departments of Queens General Hospital, the many calls and visits received. Special mention to Billy Tutty who spent so much time with him while he was home for Christmas holidays. We especially wish to thank all the nursing staff on 2nd floor who took such good care of Harland.  And to all the physicians who were involved. Special thanks going to Dr. Tim Woodford for your care, compassion and dedication. To Susan Fisher, we could not have done it without you – we love you, and to the staff of Ridgewood for the care and compassion shown to his mom during this very difficult time.
