Ralph K. Thompson

THOMPSON – Ralph K. –  It is with sadness that the grandchildren of Ralph K. Thompson wish to announce his peaceful passing on December 7th, 2012 at the age of 102.

Ralph was born on February 27, 1910 in Liverpool, Nova Scotia and was the son of the late Harold and Winifred (Kempton) Thompson.

Ralph’s career started as an apprentice in the family business; Thompson Brothers Machinery Co. Ltd., in Liverpool  in 1928 and ended when he retired from government service at the Halifax Dock Yards in 1977.   Ralph viewed retirement as a new beginning for the full time pursuit of his passions which included organic farming, photography and rock hounding. Ralph spent many happy years tending to his flower and vegetable gardens and fruit trees, skidooing on Cameron Lake and 4 wheeling in the woods and on the property that he considered his favorite place on earth.

Ralph was a man of few words, but will be well remembered for his generosity and sense of humor.  Ralph was a proud member of the royal Standard Masonic Lodge in Halifax, where he was a member for over 45 years, the Nova Scotia Photographic guild and the Nova Scotia Rockhounds.

Ralph was the last surviving member of his immediate family and was predeceased by his wife Linda (Forbes) Thompson, as well as his only and much loved child John “Forbes” Thompson. Ralph will be missed by his cherished grandchildren; John (Coleen), Toronto; Linda (Steve), Port Williams; Wendy (Bernard), Kentville and Susan (Robert “Bob”), Halifax. Ralph was also the proud great grandfather of Ashley, Jamison, Nancy, Alexa, Ian, Nicola, Robyn, Danika and Madeleine. Ralph will be sadly missed by his friend and loving companion Leona Jefferson as well as by the staff of Meadowbrook Manor in South Brookfield  where he lived and was cared for during the last few years of his life. There was no funeral or memorial service at Ralph’s request. Cremation was under the direction of Chandlers’ Funeral Home, Liverpool where online condolences may be made to www.chandlersfuneral.com
