Virginia Ruth Smith

Smith, Virginia Ruth, 90, of Liverpool, passed away peacefully from this life in her sleep on Thursday, October 31st, 2013.

Born in South Side, Shelburne County,  she was  the daughter of the late Clinton and Helen (Newell) Stoddart.

Virginia  is survived by sons Michael (Michelle) Herman, Joseph (Mary), both of Halifax, Donald Colin (Marion), of Dartmouth; daughters Patricia (David) MacLeod, of Kentville, Anna (James) Boudreau, of Liverpool.

She was the last surviving member of her immediate family. Besides her parents, Virginia was predeceased by her husband Millard, sister Marjorie and brothers Donald and Ross (Monique).

She was an active member of the Order of the Eastern Star. The Liverpool United Baptist Church  and it’s members, played an integral part in her life. Their friendship and support was appreciated over the years. As a young adult, Virginia spent four years recovering from tuberculosis at the Roseway Sanatorium in Shelburne. During this time her sister, Marjorie, passed away after surgical complications related to tuberculosis. She enjoyed shopping trips to Halifax and Maine with the girls. Always beautiful and well groomed, Virginia had a flair for fashion. She faced the reoccurrence of her breast cancer with courage and a positive attitude, and lived independently in her home until the day before her death. Her nine grandchildren and seven great grandchildren will miss their Nina.

Cremation has taken place under the direction of Chandlers’ Funeral Home, Liverpool. A celebration of Virginia’s life will be held on Sunday, November 10th, 2013, at 2:00 p.m., from Liverpool United Baptist Church, followed by a reception. Reverend Steven Hopper officiating. Burial will be in the Zion United Church Cemetery, Payzant Street, Liverpool. Donations in her memory may be made to the Liverpool United Baptist Church.
