“We have lost our “Wise Old Owl”.
It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of our mother, Joyce Marie (Martin) Seldon on Sept 18, 2021. She was born May 20, 1930, in Kempt and lived her entire life in the North Queens area. She was known and loved by everyone.
She was predeceased by her father and mother, Everett and Bertha Martin, her husband, Lawrence and her daughter, Margaret Jean.
She leaves behind her sisters Beryl Selig and Claire Montreuil, children Richard (Christine) Halifax, Mitch (Darlene) Bridgewater, Joanne (Terry) Lohnes, Edmonton. Neill (Kathy), Western Head and Stepdaughter Beulah (Snooky) Ritcey, Bobcaygeon. Grand Children: Dennis (Jen), Cortney, Leah (Joel), James, Candace, Graham, Ashley, and Logan. Great Grandchildren: Lexi, Jake, Benjamin, Georgia, Atem, Piper, Briar, Alex, Evander, Leander, Cathy. Step Grandchildren: Wanda (Carroll) Conrad, Marsha (David) Freeman, Melvin (Jennifer) Carver and their children.
She was a devoted mother to her 4 children, but she also worked as a PCW for 15 years at the North Queens Nursing home and was well known for her time working at the NF Douglas’ Store. Mom’s home was a drop-in center for any and all. She loved hosting large family gatherings and would cook amazing meals. She was an avid Legion member for years and enjoyed dancing and dart nights.
She loved to travel and had many trips across Canada to Vancouver Island, Edmonton, Calgary, Winnipeg, Toronto, and Montreal. She also traveled to Europe, traveling with her good friend Gracie Backman, visiting Germany, Switzerland, and France.
She and her sisters were renowned for attending every community event, supporting all chartable events and local church suppers.
Later in life, as she slowed, Mom relished many things such as her weekly Tuesday Tea and Crumpets at Carolyn and Miles, weekly hair appointments on Thursday mornings with her hairdressers, Patricia Wamboldt and Toddy Mansfield and her Friday lunches with friends at the Hollow Log. She also looked forward to her sons taking her out to lunch or dinner and always ordered the lobster if available.
We, the family, would like to extend a special recognition and thank you to Tom and Joy Kaulback who were her next-door neighbours for the past 20 years. They were much loved by her, and they thought of her as their adopted mother.
We’d also like to thank the doctors, nurses, and EHS personnel from South Shore Regional Hospital who are to be commended for the wonderful caring treatment that they gave our mom.
We will celebrate her life with a get-together on the 23 of October 2021 at the Caledonia Fire Hall between 1 and 4 pm. Everyone is welcome to come and remember Joyce Marie Seldon. Donations in Joyce’s memory may be made to a charity of your choice. To share memories or condolences, please visit www.chandlersfuneral.com
