Cross - Sandra Jean “Sandy”, 64, of East Berlin, Queens County, passed away peacefully on March 19, 2025 in South Shore Regional Hospital, Bridgewater, NS.
Born in Liverpool, Sandy was a daughter of the late Leslie and Roxie (Baker) Levy and step daughter to the late Sayward Carver.
Sandy graduated from Liverpool Regional High School and went on to Lunenburg Vocational School to graduate as a CNA/LPN. Her work career included Queens General Hospital, South Shore Regional Hospital, Fisherman’s Memorial Hospital and Hillsview Acres. She did private nursing care as well as worked for the former Steel and Engine Products Limited STENPRO and the Wooden Menagerie.
Sandy was a member of the NSCNAA and an active volunteer. She participated in Elections Canada and Canada Census, Girl Guides, a member of Mersey Branch #38, Royal Canadian Legion, Liverpool, Heart and Stroke and a CPR instructor for St. John’s Ambulance. Her most recent involvement was her passion of being in the Port Medway Fire Department as a MFR and the Ladies Auxiliary where she made good friends. Her happy place was going in the parades with the Port Medway Utility #5 fire truck.
Sandy was kind-hearted, generous, direct and determined and would be there for others whenever anyone needed her help. She loved to travel, enjoyed many trips to Walt Disney World in Florida, went on cruises and was always up for an adventure especially any event that included driving which she loved. Shopping could be considered Sandy’s “hobby”.
As her health slowed her down, life became more challenging but Sandy still maintained the qualities that she’ll be remembered for.
Surviving are her husband of 44 years, Barry; Her sisters Ann (Almon) Cunningham of Mersey Point and Paula (Dave) Conrad of Liverpool. Her brother in law Wayne (Lana) Cross of Pasadena, NL; sister in law Donna (Kevin) Dowling of Eagle Head. Nieces Megan and Rebecca Conrad and Catherine Harty. Nephews Almon Cunningham (Heather Benvie), Tristen Cross, Kelsey (Micaela) Cross. Great nieces Skye Walker and Acadia Cross and great nephews Cody Benvie, Landon McCarthy and Leo Walker.
Besides her parents and step father, Sandy was predeceased by her brother Paul.
Cremation has taken place under the direction of Chandlers’ Funeral Home, Liverpool, where a funeral service will be held on Thursday, March 27, 2025 at 11:00 a.m. Reception to follow. Graveside interment will be held at a later date. No flowers by request, donations may be made to the Port Medway Fire Department Ladies Auxiliary, the Kidney Foundation or the Canadian Cancer Society. Online condolences may be made below.
Special thanks to all the doctors, nursing staff and RT’s in the ICU at SSRH for providing wonderful care and compassion to Sandy and her family during her stay.
