ROWTER – Althea T., 87, of Maitland Bridge, passed away peacefully in North Queens Nursing Home, Caledonia on Tuesday, December 19, 2017.
Born in Devonshire, she was a daughter of the late John and Annie (Coade) Carver.
Althea was a life long member of St. Paul’s United Church, Maitland Bridge where she served as church secretary and was a member of the choir. She was also a member of the WMS and the WINS for many years. She enjoyed quilting,, gardening, and knitting many socks and mittens for her family. Althea was an active community member volunteering countless hours to many causes and community minded events. She enjoyed preparing and working church suppers and other community hall events. Above all, Althea loved to spend time with her family especially her granddaughters and great grandsons. She will be lovingly remembered for her “nanny trailer rolls” and her flower and vegetable gardens.
She is survived by her son Frank of Hammond’s Plains; her grand daughters Angela Rowter (Chris Barnes) and Sally Rowter (Alphonso David), both of Hammond’s Plains; her great grandsons Jack and Josh Keeping and Brandon Ridgley.
Besides her parents, Althea was predeceased by her husband Arnold “Tim”; her sisters Zora, Dora, Lurleen, Beulah, Mae, Jean, Helen, Pauline and Marguerite, her brothers Kenneth and Edward, her sister in law Bertie and brother in law Allen.
Cremation has taken place under the direction of Chandlers’ Funeral Home, Liverpool. Visitation will be Friday, December 29, 2017 from 1 until 2 p.m. with funeral service beginning at 2:00 p.m. both in St. Paul’s United Church, Maitland Bridge. Reverend Carol Smith officiating. Burial will be in Maplewood Cemetery, Maitland Bridge. Reception will be held in the Maitland Bridge Community Hall following the service.
