PAGE – Helena Pearle, 94, of Liverpool, our dear Mom, passed away peacefully in Fisherman’s Memorial Hospital, Lunenburg on Friday, October 6, 2017.
Born in Little Harbour, Shelburne County, she was a daughter of the late Clifford and Frances (Hemeon) Swansburg.
Mom was a graduate of the Maritime Business College and, after her graduation, worked in Shelburne for J.J. Cox Limited and Atkinson & Bower Machine Shop as a secretary. In 1943, she married the love of her life, Cyril. For the first few years, they lived in Shelburne where they started their family and Mom worked for Shelburne Woodworkers as a bookkeeper. In 1955, they moved to Liverpool where they continued to grow their family and where Mom lived happily for over 62 years. During this time, Mom worked for Dr. John Wickwire as a medical secretary and often said it was her favourite job. Mom was a member of Zion United Church, UCW, Kinettes, K40 and Queens General Hospital Ladies Auxiliary. She enjoyed playing bridge, golfing, curling and caring for her family. Mom was a loving and caring person and her family was the most important part of her life. She was adored and loved by her children, grandchildren and great grandchildren as well as many nieces and nephews and will be dearly missed by all.
Pearle is survived by her daughters Noreen Page (Barry Tomalin) of Liverpool; Sheila (David) Manthorne of Dartmouth; her sons Kevin (Debbie) of Hunt’s Point and David (Debra) of Halifax. her grandchildren Jill (Trevor) Jamieson, Shelley (David) Chapman, Joel (Jo-Ann) Page, Michael (Pam) Page, Bryan Page, Matthew Page and Daniel Page. Her great grandchildren Harlow Jamieson, Mayes Chapman, Ethan, Liam and Aidan Page as well as many nieces and nephews. She is also survived by her good friend Dr. Wendell Jeffrey.
Pearle was predeceased by her husband Cyril; her infant son Brian, her infant brother Eugene and her brothers Wesley (Louise) and Arthur (Florence).
Cremation has taken place under the direction of Chandlers’ Funeral Home, Liverpool. Funeral service will be Saturday, October 14, 2017 at 11:00 a.m. in Chandlers’ Funeral Chapel, Liverpool. Reverend Robert Chapman officiating. Reception to follow. A private family burial will take place at a later time in Zion United Cemetery, Payzant Street, Liverpool. The family wishes to express their sincere appreciation to Pam Whynot who was not only Mom’s caregiver for many years but has been a wonderful friend to Mom as well as the entire family. We also wish to thank the nurses and doctors at Queens General Hospital and Fisherman’s Memorial Hospital for the wonderful care Mom received and also a special thank you to Dr. Mogan for her compassionate care.
