Dorothy (Smart) Oliver – Milton, NS
It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of Dorothy (Smart) Oliver, 88, of Milton, Queens County, NS. in Queens General Hospital on January 29, 2020 surrounded by her family.
Born September 9, 1931 in Brooklyn, Queens County, Dorothy was a daughter of the late Ernest C.F. Smart and Florence (Constable) Smart. She was the last surviving member of her immediate family.
Dot said that raising and loving her three children was her greatest joy in life. She enjoyed a good game of cards and hosting the family in her kitchen for delicious home-cooked meals. As the family grew and spouses and kids were added, she always found room for everyone around the table(s). Later in life, Dot was known for walking around the river with her cocker spaniel, sometimes up to four times a day! She wore out her sneakers like nobody’s business. Her smile, patience and kind words will be missed by all who knew her.
Dot is survived by her three children Vernon (Sharon) Oliver, Judith (Kenneth) Minard, and Daniel (Sally) Oliver, her grandchildren, Stacey (Chad) Oliver-Carson, Jason (Genita) Oliver, Parker Minard, Dena (D’Arcy) Hueston, Sarah (Max) Oliver and Amy (Kurt) Oliver. Great-grandchildren: Madison, Alex, Ryleigh, Kael, Graham, Tom and Claire.
Dot was predeceased by her beloved husband of 44 years Ernest (Ernie) Oliver; her sisters Vera Russell, Olga Lucas, Florence Whynot; brothers, Albert, Cyril and Timmy Smart and her granddaughter-in-law Leslie Ann Minard.
Cremation has taken place under the direction of Chandlers’ Funeral Home, Liverpool, NS. A Celebration of Life will be held on Saturday, February 1st from 2:00pm – 4:00pm at Chandlers’ Funeral Chapel. Donations may be made to Hillsview Acres, Middlefield, NS; Queens Manor, Liverpool, NS; or Queens General Hospital, Liverpool, NS.
A special thank you to all her caregivers at Hillsview Acres and Queens Manor, as well as Dr. Tim Woodford and the wonderful nurses at Queens General Hospital.
