It is with tremendous heartache that we announce the passing of our beloved son, Nicholas Paul Gidney, 40, on Thursday, December 26, 2024 in South Shore Regional Hospital, Bridgewater, NS.
Born in Liverpool, Nick was a son of Ralph and Barbara (Cotter) Gidney of Milton, NS.
Nick resided with his parents for 38 years before moving to Alternative Programs for Youth and Families in Bridgewater. He loved his new home and he loved the staff. They did everything to accommodate his needs in making it “his home”.
Despite his mental and physical disabilities, Nick possessed the HEART and SPIRIT of a little boy who loved unconditionally! During his lifetime, he endured many challenges and trials, but, in spite of these, he brought joy and awareness to everyone who had the privilege of being part of his journey. When he reaches Celestial Glory, we take comfort in knowing he will be free to do all the things his disabilities have limited him to do here in this life. He is our hero. His recent challenges have reminded yet again of all that he taught us about resiliency, strength, patience, courage, fight determination acceptance and, most of all, as a member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, faith.
Besides his parents, Nick is also survived by his brother Jonathan (Alicia) and his niece Adelynn and nephew Nolan to whom he was known as “Uncle Nick” as well as his beloved caregiver and devoted friend for over 23 years, Betty Ann Daury.
Cremation has taken place under the direction of Chandlers’ Funeral Home, Liverpool, NS, where visitation will be held Friday, January 3, 2025 from 7 until 9 p.m. and funeral service will be on Saturday, January 4, 2025 at 11:00 a.m. followed by a reception. A private family burial will take place at a later date. No flowers by request, donations may be made to VON Canada - Queens or Lunenburg locations. Online condolences may be made below.
Heartfelt thanks to all Nick’s caregivers during his lifetime.
“The Angels came for you much sooner than we planned. We’ll brave the bitter grief that comes and try to understand.”
