Mervin E. Zwicker, 94, son of the late Ellard and Edna Zwicker (née Garber) and born in Newcombville, Lunenburg County passed away at the Mahone Bay Nursing Home on September 8, 2024.
Mervin was a genuine good man whose family and community were very important to him. A father with four daughters can be trial but he was a loving, active man who rarely sat still. Mervin ended up in Liverpool when a job catering to his new skills as a locomotive engineer became available at the Bowater Mersey Paper Mill. He drove the trains around the plant and made a home in the area with his wife, Rosalyn. Around the town of Liverpool, Mervin was well known for his long walks that he did for exercise and for the opportunity to chat with people along the way. Also, people may know Mervin for giving his generous energy to the church and to many charity events. His faith and church were important to Mervin and over the years, he filled many roles at the United Baptist Church in Liverpool as deacon, choir member, Sunday School teacher, cemetery chairman and more. Until last fall, he was a regular participant at Sunday services accompanied by one of his daughters, Brenda or Cindy. Besides being an avid gardener, Mervin also enjoyed hunting, fishing, playing in the Mersey Band, curling and, of course, the socializing that these activities offered him.
Mervin lived a full life and, with the help from his dedicated daughters Brenda and Cindy and the care workers of Queens Home Support, he was able to live at home independently and stubbornly until the last few months. He has been a marvel to us all for his strength of spirit and independence. He will be greatly missed.
Mervin is survived by his daughters Brenda Zwicker (Tom Manley) Liverpool, Cindy Schofield (Dave) Liverpool, Wendy Zwicker Halifax. His grandchildren are Alec and Leigh Manley, Mallory Plummer and Rachael Daury, Rebecca and Amanda Crowell, Mckynlie, Kallyn, Cheltyn and Cabot Morgan. There are seven great grandchildren who will also miss Mervin.
Mervin was predeceased by his wife, Rosalyn, known mostly as Rose (Fralic) and a daughter, Janice Crowell (Ronnie). He came from a large farming family and all his siblings have predeceased him. Beatrice Beck, Lawrence, Raymond, Everett, Leaman, Lorne, Willard and his twin, Merrill (Mellie).
Cremation will take place under the direction of Chandlers’ Funeral Home in Liverpool. A Celebration of Life service will be held Thursday, September 19, 2024 at 2:00 p.m. in Chandlers’ Funeral Chapel. Pastor Noah Lohnes officiating.
