Robert Allen Mansfield – South Brookfield
It is with a deep sense of sadness and loss that we announce the passing of Robert Allen Mansfield of South Brookfield, Nova Scotia. Bob passed away at the Queens General Hospital in Liverpool on the morning of February 2 – following a brief illness that he met with an admirable sense of stoicism.
Born in Liverpool in 1947 to the late Wilfred and Susie (née Wamboldt) Mansfield, Bob was raised in South Brookfield.
After graduating from North Queens High School in 1965, he started his post-secondary education as an apprentice Electronics Technician in the Halifax Dockyards. His subsequent career was with Transport Canada (Coast Guard) and started with him serving 12 years at Eddy Point, Nova Scotia – followed by another 10 years in Prince Rupert, British Columbia. Upon retirement, he decided to move back to where he had always felt most at home: his native South Brookfield.
An avid outdoorsman, golf enthusiast, and competitive dart player, Bob was very active in the local community. He is a former president of the Royal Canadian Legion (Local Branch 87) through which he was responsible for the organization and operation of the local community dart league. An active member of the Trappers Association of Hibernia, he also served as a Trustee of the South Brookfield Union Cemetery. The greatest joys of his later life involved hunting and spending quality time with his grandchildren.
Bob is survived by his loving wife of 33 years, Hazel (née Gillis); son Bryce (Svetlana) Mansfield of Ottawa, Ontario; daughter Beth of Calgary, Alberta; sister Jean Crouse of Lunenburg, N.S.; and grandchildren Daria, Anna, and Sean.
Bob was predeceased by his sister Margaret Shay and brothers Gordon and George Mansfield.
