Mary Ellen Macquarrie

MacQUARRIE – Mary Ellen, 79, of Caledonia, Queens County passed away peacefully on Monday, August 11, 2014 in North Queens Nursing Home, Caledonia.

Born in North Brookfield, she was a daughter of the late George and Elsie (Herman) Baker.

Mary served as post mistress for Canada Post in South Brookfield for many years. She loved to read, take quiet walks in the woods, spending time with her family and animals. She also enjoyed politics, studying genealogy and a good game of cards.

She is survived by her daughters Wanda (Byron) Frail of Westfield, Cheryl (Harold) Freeman of Caledonia, her sons Douglas of Pleasantville and Timothy (Sharon) of Chester Grant, her grandchildren Benjamin and Daniel Frail, Trudy (Devan) Smith, Holly (Jeff) Manzer, Hannah Freeman, Scott (Kerry) MacQuarrie, Darcy (Masami) MacQuarrie, Becky MacQuarrie (Carlos “Ringo” Taylhardat), Megan MacQuarrie (Chris Plummer), Brennan, Connor and Taegan MacQuarrie, her great-grandchildren Cohen Smith and Abby Freeman, Emerson Manzer, Tarquin and Kenna MacQuarrie, Coco and Miyabi MacQuarrie, Dryden and Elijah Taylhardat, daughter-in-law Anita MacQuarrie of North Brookfield, sister-in-law Frances Baker of Antigonish.

She was predeceased by her husband Kendall, son Gregory, grandson Benjamin, sisters Jean Lohnes and Patience Crouse, brothers George, Raymond and Ralph.

Cremation has taken place under the direction of Chandlers’ Funeral Home, Liverpool. A graveside memorial service will be held Saturday, August 16, 2014 at 11:00 a.m. in Rosette Cemetery, North Brookfield. The family would like to acknowledge the staff of North Queens Nursing Home for their kindness and special care given to Mary while she was a resident as well as to her daughters Cheri, for her personal devotion to Mary’s care while she was in the nursing home, sometimes with great personal sacrifice, and to Wanda for her dedication. Also to Chandlers’ for their professional advice and support during a difficult time.
