Joyce Myra Macleod

MacLEOD – Joyce Myra, 86, of Liverpool, NS.
It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of our dear Mother. She was special in our lives and we loved her so much. She was a small lady but strong, independent and had a smile for everyone.
In her younger years, Mom worked for Kim Wong’s Café and Stedman’s Store in Liverpool as well as Moirs Chocolate Factory in Halifax dipping chocolates. She stayed at home to raise her family with the exception of one year working at the Bowling Alley to earn enough for a down payment on a house and rejoiced the day when we finally had a home of our own. Her children were her pride and joy. Mom regretted not finishing high school but made sure all of us had a good education – and she graduated right along with us.
Church was a large part of Mom’s life. She loved singing in the choir and was treasurer of the ACW for many years. She especially enjoyed the potlucks and Christmas teas and socializing with her community. Over the years, Mom enjoyed quilting, knitting, watching movies and playing cards. She was a wonderful baker as anyone who has eaten a piece of her coconut pie can attest to. And let’s not forget her famous “fried doughs”! Photography was one of Mom’s passions and she loved taking pictures of family, friends and the beautiful irises in her garden. Mom spent many hours enjoying the sunshine on her swing on the big oak tree in her backyard. Even on chilly days, she could be found there all bundled up and swinging away. We are sure going to miss that smile.
She is survived by her daughters Katherine (Barry) Tucker of Coldbrook, NS; Myra (Les) Foley of Lafayette, LA., her son Peter (Dennis Wyatt) of North Vancouver, BC. Her half brother Merrill (Irene) Croft of Dartmouth.
Mom was predeceased by her parents J. Andrew and Jean (Strachan) Oickle, her husband Danny and her half sister Annabelle Rafuse.
