Ruth, with husband Sherman, travelled to various locations in Canada and the US with Sherman’s home-made Truck Camper. They enjoyed these travels and met so many wonderful friends whom they stayed in contact with for many years. Ruth was great at personal letter writing and corresponded with so many people she met, including relatives and acquaintances. She had numerous photo albums with precious memories of her travels and of family outings, etc.
Living in LaBelle, Queens County during the summer months at their cottage in the past were special times. Ruth and Sherman welcomed family and visitors to share this beautiful natural environment. They were naturalists enjoying the wonderful outdoors.
Ruth was an avid Bridge game player and always enjoyed the times with her lady friends. She enjoyed a good cup of tea and always had tea times in the afternoon everyday. She especially enjoyed visits from Lois Sparkes and Janet Dagley. Charlotte White’s baked goods were a real treat for her. Her door was always open for a visit from friends. She was the last resident to have built and lived in her home for over 65 years on College Street in Liverpool.
She appreciated the support of neighbours and friends over the years, especially Bob Brogan who was a great neighbour and “looked after his women on the street” delivering mail and water daily.
A special recognition to Joanne Fancy, Ruth’s caregiver for several years, a real “Gem” Ruth said. Also Ann Buchanan and Doris Taylor who cared for Ruth in the past.
Recently during Ruth’s failing health, a team of caregivers helped Ruth immensely in her last days. Tracy Samuels, Mary Whalen, Darlene Connolly and Dale Wentzell were angels helping Ruth be comfortable in her last days and the care of Doctor Garry Morash was exceptional.
Ruth had a special place in her heart for her niece Susan MacLeod, who looked after her many and diverse needs which enabled Ruth to stay in her home until her passing as per her request.
