Loretta Irene Wells

d. October 7, 2024

With sadness, the family announces the passing of Loretta Wells, age 93, at Surf Lodge, Lockeport on October 7.

Born and spending her entire life in Liverpool until the past few months, Loretta was one of nine children of Wesley and Carrie (Sproule) Kaulback.

Mom was kind hearted, stubborn at times, generous and loving. In her early years, she taught school but once married, dedicated her life to making a home and raising her family. Once her family had grown and left home, Loretta and her sister Ethel owned and operated the Ball and Skein, a local yarn shop. Mom spent many hours reading, had a big library of books, many different authors, but especially loved Harlequin. She crocheted afghans and knitted shawls that she donated to our local hospital. She loved to bake, trying new recipes that she saw in the daily newspaper and of course baking the best cookies, according to Brian, Bridgette and Ian. She never complained when her living room floor was strewn with Legos or clothes pins and hot wheel cars.

Loretta was an active member of Liverpool Baptist Church and enjoyed singing in the choir until her later years. Sunday mornings or music rallies you would see Loretta singing with her church family choir which included sister Ethel, brother Chick and daughter Nancy. She enjoyed making many crafts, watching golf and curling and loved going to Tim’s for coffee and a honey cruller until COVID and then had to enjoy them at home. Loretta’s greatest joy was time spent with family, recently enjoying visits from the youngest great grandchildren.

Mom, Nan, Grandmamma and Gran Nanny will be missed by her family and in our heart forever. She now is at rest, peace and singing in heaven’s angel choir. Until we meet again.

Loretta is survived by daughter, Nancy (Wayne) Hanley; son, Jeff (Pam), Pine Grove; Grandchildren, Brian (Melanie Welch) Hanley, Windsor; Bridgette Hanley, Liverpool; Jay Wells, Halifax; Ian (Karine LeBlanc) Dieppe, NB; Nan Wells and Grand Nanny will be missed by Great grandchildren Jillian, Max and Eric Hanley; Danielle and Jacob LeBlanc Wells.

Besides her parents Loretta was predeceased by her husband, Arthur; son, Greg; sisters Edna Corkum, Mabel Cain, Blanche Wigglesworth, Miriam Balcom, Audrey Thorbourne, Ethel Ells; brothers Merrill “Chick” Kaulback, John Kaulback.

Cremation has taken place under the direction of Chandlers' Funeral Home, Liverpool, NS. A  graveside service will be held on Saturday, October 12, 2024 at 11:00 a.m. in Trinity Anglican Cemetery, Bog Road, Liverpool, NS. No flowers by request, donations may be made to Liverpool Baptist Church or charity of your choice.  Online condolences may be made below.

A special thank-you to Sharon Dorey whose care and compassion made it possible for Loretta to stay in her home until failing health made it impossible to do so.
