Leslie Carl Armstrong

d. February 6, 2025

Leslie “Les” Carl Armstrong, 83, of Liverpool Nova Scotia passed away peacefully on Thursday, February 6, 2025, at Harbourview Haven in Lunenburg, NS.

Les was the son of the late Carl Bishop “Bish” Armstrong and Margaret (Shafner) Armstrong. He was born in Middleton and was raised on the family farm in Torbrook, NS where he developed a love for the great outdoors.

Les started working for the NS Department of Highways as a laboratory technician. His fieldwork led him to a little place called Aspen on the eastern shore where he met the Mackeen family and many good friends who kept in touch with him throughout the years. Les loved to fish and hunt for much of his life and he would visit Aspen every hunting and fishing season.

Les and his father, Bish, started a small rock quarry and paving operation Budget Paving Ltd. while investing in real estate and creating Forest Hill Mobile Home Park in Liverpool. Les greatly enjoyed his work and spending time with his employees, tenants, and many contractors over the years – many of whom he considered friends. If he wasn’t enjoying a good meal or fast asleep on the couch (at the paving plant or at home), he would be working away on something. Otherwise, you would catch him reading, in a tree stand in the bush, in a canoe with a rod in hand, or on the road hunting with friends.

Later in life, his love for nature grew - especially his penchant for gardening and his bird watching operation at the house! He also loved politics and history, and anyone who met him would learn something from the multitudes of books, magazines, and newspaper articles he collected and read. Les also enjoyed a good hunt for the latest deal at the grocery or hardware stores while catching up with staff about the latest goings on around town. He will be deeply missed by many.

Les is survived by his sons Karl (Miriam), Daniel, and stepson Larry (Pamela).

Cremation has taken place under the direction of Chandlers' Funeral Home, Liverpool, NS. A gathering of friends and family will be held at a later date in Liverpool along with a small graveside service in Nictaux, NS. Leslie was a generous supporter of many charities. In honour of his life, donations may be made in his memory to the Queens General Hospital Foundation in Liverpool, the Alzheimer Society of Canada, or the Nature Conservancy of Canada. Feel free to leave your good wishes and condolences online below.

A special thanks to Richard and Donna Bollivar who went the extra mile helping ‘papa’ at home, in the hospital, and later at Harborview. Many thanks also to the wonderful staff at Harbourview Haven in Lunenburg, the Aspen crew, and all who took the time to call and visit him.
