Jean Winnifred Fancy

 Fancy, Jean W., 79 passed away peacefully on May 26th, 2024 at St. Vincent’s nursing home in Halifax.

 Jean was born and raised in Caledonia, N.S., the daughter of the late Lorenzo and Nina (Freeman) Conrad.

 Jean discovered a love of music very early. She had a beautiful voice and played piano. While in nursing training, she would often spend the money her parents sent her on sheet music instead of essentials. Jean studied to become an R.N. and enjoyed working with children. She was one of first nurses on duty at the I.W.K. when it opened. 

 Jean also enjoyed working with the elderly. She worked as the administrator of the North Queens Nursing home for many years before choosing to go back on the floor. She retired from nursing in 2010. Jean loved her family above all else and will be missed every single day. 

 Jean is survived by three children Adrian, Sarah and Matthew, five grandchildren Natalie, Jacob, Rachael, Cassia and Jonah, and two great grandchildren Sullivan and Sawyer. Her sister Ruth (Alan) MacKinnon of Cape Breton.

 Besides her parents, Jean was predeceased by her brother Ivan.

 Cremation has taken place under the direction of Chandlers’ Funeral Home, Liverpool, NS. A graveside funeral service will be held Saturday, July 20, 2024 at 11:00 a.m. in Highland Cemetery, Hibernia Road, Caledonia, NS. No flowers, donations may be made to the I.W.K. Foundation.
