Sutherland - Isabel S. “Isa”, 97, formerly of South Brookfield, Queens County, passed away peacefully in Harbourview Haven, Lunenburg, NS on Tuesday, August 13, 2024.
Born in Bothwell, Scotland, Isabel was a daughter of the late Gilbert and Margaret (Patterson) McArthur.
Isabel was a veteran of World War II serving as a WREN. Following the war, she immigrated to Canada as a war bride. She worked at North Queens Nursing Home for a number of years as a PCW. Isabel enjoyed knitting, crocheting and gardening. She loved spending time with her family and was deeply devoted to them She was their matriarch and their fiercest protector. Isabel was a member of the South Brookfield Baptist Church and the WMS.
Isabel is survived by her daughters Christine (Donald) Hyson of Beaver Bank; Bonnie Delong of Albany New; Catherine (Leigh) Merry of Maitland Bridge; Margaret Weare of Caledonia. Her sons Robert (Wilda) of Harmony and Peter of Lunenburg.
13 grandchildren, 22 great grandchildren and 9 great great grandchildren.
Besides her parents, Isabel was predeceased by her husband Chester; her granddaughter Gwen Merry, her grandson Troy Merry, her sisters May McArthur, Sadie Provan, Christine MacDonald, Catherine Hutchinson and Margaret Anderson. Her brothers Samuel and Andrew. Son In law Garnet Delong.
Cremation has taken place under the direction of Chandlers’ Funeral Home, Liverpool, NS. A graveside funeral service will be held Tuesday, August 20, 2024 at 11:00 a.m. in South Brookfield Community Cemetery. Pastor Royce Getson Officiating. No flowers by request, donations may be made to the South Brookfield Baptist Church, North Queens Fire Department or charity of choice. Online condolences may be made below.
