Wanda Jean Horton

Wanda Jean Horton, 62, of Pleasantfield, Queens County, passed away on Sunday, May 28, 2023 at the Halifax Infirmary, after battling cancer for over 2 years. She faced this challenge with strength, courage and faith that helped her to have a positive outlook despite her circumstances. Born in Liverpool, NS, Wanda was the daughter of the late Bazil and Marguerite (Smith) Horton.
Wanda loved her job at Hillsview Acres Home for Special Care and loved caring for, and interacting with residents there. In spite of doing so later in life, she worked hard to become a certified CCA, and was proud to reach this goal. Wanda loved a good deal. Whether Frenchy’s, Value Village, or Marketplace, she knew how to sniff out a bargain and snag the good stuff. If she didn’t need it herself, she always had a friend in mind who could use a lightly used item. Above everything else, family and friends were the most important things to her. Those who knew her best, know how much she loved to talk…sometimes for hours. She cared very much for the people around her, and found strength from the love she received from her friends, some of whom were especially dear to her.
She is survived by her partner of 23 years, Gene Eaton; daughter, Crystal (Jonathan) Schenkels; brother, Darren Horton (Bonnie MacDonald); and grandson, Cameron Schenkels, whom she especially loved and adored.
We would like to thank Dr. MacKinnon, Natalie Brooks (Palliative Care), the Halifax Oncology Unit, especially Dr. Rayson and Nurse, Megan, and all medical staff who helped guide Wanda through the past 2 years.
In keeping with Wanda’s wishes, there will be no funeral services held. Fond memories and expressions of sympathy may be shared at www.chandlersfuneral.com for the Horton family.
