Cowie - Helen G., 91, of Brooklyn, Queens County, passed away peacefully in Blomidon Court, Wolfville, on Friday, April 18, 2025.
Born in Mahone Bay, Helen was a daughter of the late Tracy and Irene (Legge) Zwicker.
Helen was a loving, caring, trustworthy and strong perfectionist throughout her entire life. Graduating from the Grace Maternity Hospital as a maternity ward nurse, she assisted doctors with one of the most important tasks in life, bringing new life into the world, treating every new born as her own. She did this in various hospitals throughout the province from Liverpool to Springhill. It was as a nurse when she met and worked with a fellow nurse and eventual friend, Bea Hunt who was the sister of Graham who would later become Helen's husband. When her two sons, her pride and joy were born, she decided to end her career and focused her life on her beloved family. No matter what she did, whether maintaining a household, helping with homework, speaking to her father every Saturday night and sisters and brothers often, she did so with love. She will be sadly missed.
Helen is survived by her sons Hal (Louanne) of Fort St. John, BC and Graham of Brooklyn. Her grandchildren Lena de la Loire (Sam Barbick), Reese Cowie and Morgan Cowie. Her sisters Margaret Dorey of Waverly, NS, Dee Tanner of Calgary, AB and Linda Fitzpatrick of Marystown, NL. Her brother Tracy of Wolfville, NS.
Besides her parents, Helen was predeceased by her spouse Douglas Graham and her brothers Lawrence and Fred.
Cremation has taken place under the direction of Chandlers’ Funeral Home, Liverpool, NS. A private family graveside service will be held at a later date. No flowers by request, donations may be made to a charity of your choice. Online condolences may be made below.
