Sarah Patella Hatt (Smart) April 14, 1924 – May 7, 2023
It is with great sadness that we say goodbye to our beloved mother, grandmother and great-grandmother known to most as Ella.
Our mother was born in Edinburgh, Scotland and came to Canada as a war bride. She married our father Kenneth “Skinny” Hatt in 1947. It was a culture shock for sure taking a city girl and plunking her in the middle of a very small rural Nova Scotia town. She couldn’t cook when she first arrived but soon became known for her awesome seafood chowder and homemade bread. She adapted well and even though Scotland wasn’t far from her heart her family and Nova Scotia was her home.
She will be lovingly remembered by her children sons Al Hatt (wife Margaret), Terry Hatt (wife Florence), Scott Hatt (wife Joyce), daughters Cindy Powell (husband Bob) and Elaine Hatt, grandchildren Joe, Stacy, Bonnie, Kevin, Matthew, Jeremy and Shayla and great-grandchildren Jessica, AJ, Phoenix, Brooklyn, Brittany, Nathan, Amber, Tanisha and Logan. She was predeceased by husband Kenneth “Skinny” Hatt, sister Pearl, and brothers George and Bill.
Cremation has taken place under the direction of Chandlers’ Funeral Home, Liverpool. As per our mother’s request, there will be no funeral service. Online condolences may be made to www.chandlersfuneral.com
Our family wishes to thank the staff at Hillsview Acres and Roseway Manor for their care and compassion while our mother was in their care.
