Gordon Leonard Cleveland

d. July 6, 2024

It is with deep sadness that the family of Gordon “Gordie” Leonard Cleveland, 71, of East Port Medway, announce his passing on Saturday July 6, 2024. Gordie passed away peacefully at home, surrounded by his daughter, two sons, son in law, two daughters in law, three grandchildren, and his girlfriend. Gordie was born on October 18th, 1952, in Kings County to the late Greta Barkhouse and Robert Cleveland. Gordie’s true mother (foster mother) is the late Joyce (Allen) Chute.

To Gordie, family meant everything. He loved being a father, and took pride in teaching his children what it meant to be a Cleveland. He always said his greatest accomplishment in life were his children. He then became a grandfather, and nothing made him happier than being a Grampy - “Poppa G”. Gordie treasured the outdoors; camping trips, fishing trips, rock hounding the shore, a walk around the field, feeding his raccoons, a ride on the four-wheeler, many trips to the beach, going back “yonder”, lighting up the fire pit, a drive to the dock, or just sitting in his backyard enjoying the paradise that surrounded him. He had a passion for and was a skilled cultivator of marijuana. He taught his children how to preserve the tradition. Gordie always found magic in life and he shared that magic with those he loved. He was a true poet, one-of-a-kind passionate soul, who always stood up for what he believed in. He waved his freak flag high so everyone could see it. His magic will be missed, but never forgotten. He is, and always will be, “The Great One”.

Gordie is survived by his children; Sacha Cleveland, Tony Cleveland (Jasmine), Nancy Cleveland (Ryan), Sara Cleveland (Mike), Fontana Cleveland (Drake), Cole Cleveland (Kaitlyn), Chase Cleveland (Kayla), his grandchildren; Ashton, Tristan, Isaah, Brennan, Joshua, Jaiden, Logan, Lucas, Aleese, Brier, Wesley, and Novah, and his great grandchild Aria. Gordie was predeceased by his beloved son Jesse Cleveland, mother Joyce Chute, sister Brenda Anderson and brother Robert “Mike” Cleveland.

Cremation has taken place under the direction of Chandlers’ Funeral Home, Liverpool, NS. There will be a celebration of life hosted at Gordie’s home in East Port Medway; where friends and family can get together to crack a cold one and have a puff to commemorate the magical life Gordie had and shared with us. Please contact his daughter Fontana for more information. Online condolences may bemade below.

“Just remember, when I’m gone, I’ll never be far.” – Gordie Cleveland
