Gail Sandra Dyer

d. January 7, 2025

Gail Sandra Dyer (Lewis) passed away peacefully in her home in Liverpool, surrounded by family and friends, on January 7th at the age of 85. Her unforgettable and infectious smile was simply delightful and will be missed by all who knew her. She embraced each day with a spunky enthusiasm that was rooted in gratefulness and the simple conviction that life was good. Finding that good in every situation and person she encountered was something she did naturally and always made it a joy to be in her company.

Gail loved music! She loved to sing and be entertained, anytime and anywhere. As a teenager in Montreal, where she was born November 5th, 1939, she proudly sang and played timbrel as a member of the Songster Brigade with the Salvation Army. It was during those years she caught the eye of a handsome sailor, who she eventually married on April 26th, 1958. They raised four children together, as they moved across the country for his work, and in their retirement devoted much of their time to lending a hand wherever they could. They generously participated in their local community and also spent time engaged in volunteer work internationally in the USA, Poland, Germany and Israel.

In 2007, they made their final move back east from Edmonton to the small town of Liverpool on the South Shore of Nova Scotia. They settled into the white house on the corner with the big hedge, across from the park with the light house.

You would often find Gail out for a walk in the park or perched on the front porch, eager to greet a neighbour or passerby with a smile. She baked well and knew it. There was always something cooling on the counter not long from the oven for anyone that had a moment to drop in.

Gail’s daughter has a Golden Doodle, named Brody. But anyone who knows them knows that Brody really belonged to her Mom. Brody followed Gail around and waited for her to return home when she was out. In her later years, Brody took it upon himself to protect her and to offer her companionship, especially after the death of her husband. Explaining this human thing called "death" will be especially difficult for Brody, but he will probably make his peace with it, as we all must.

She is survived by her sons Mark Dyer (Bernice) of Sherwood Park, Alberta, Bruce Dyer (Shawn) of Maple Ridge, British Columbia, William Dyer of Edmonton, AB, and her daughter Cindy Dyer of Liverpool, Nova Scotia. She is also survived by her grandson Nathan, her granddaughters Lisa, Kimberly and Kaitlyn, and her great granddaughter Hayden.

Gail was pre-deceased by her husband William (Bob) and her grandson Timothy. She will be missed!

Cremation has taken place under the direction of Chandlers’ Funeral Home, Liverpool, NS. A service to celebrate Gail's life will be held at 2pm on January 22nd at the Highway Assembly Church located at 4158 Highway 3, Brooklyn, NS. Online condolences may be made below.
