Frederick Stanley Baker

Frederick Stanley Baker, age 83, of Liverpool, Nova Scotia, passed away peacefully at Queens Manor, Liverpool, N.S., on Saturday, January 18, 2025.

Fred grew up on the eastern shore of Nova Scotia, the youngest of three sons born to Enos and Anna Baker of Baker’s Point, East Jeddore.

Fred and his family moved to Queens County in 1978, where he worked in the salmon restocking program with the Department of Fisheries. He demonstrated great ingenuity in implementing the use of limestone to counteract acidity in the salmon tanks. In his spare time, Fred loved to golf, go fishing and hunting, play darts, and bowl. He and his son-in-law, David, competed in an annual golf tournament, complete with trophy and bragging rights. After retirement from the salmon hatchery, he ran the well-loved local convenience store, Hanks Variety, with his daughter, Diane. Fred and Rose enjoyed traveling to Alberta to visit with their daughter Deb and her family, including a trip to the Canadian Rockies. They also loved visiting with their daughter Rosanna and her family in Baltimore, where Fred helped his grandsons build a skateboard ramp and attended an NFL game.

Fred is survived by his soul mate and loving wife of 61 years, Rose Baker; his daughters Debra (David) Herman, Diane Wolfe (Corey) , and Rosanna Baker (Sin Urban) and his grandchildren, Melissa (Blake) Dickens, Jessica Wolfe, Brianna Wolfe (Devon Turple) , Joshua Urban (Beth Gillis), and Zachary Urban, and great-granddaughter Ember Dickens.

Besides his parents, Fred was predeceased by a son in infancy and his brothers Murray and Philip.

Cremation has taken place under the directions of Chandlers’ Funeral Home, Liverpool, Nova Scotia. At Fred’s request, there will be no funeral service at this time. No flowers by request. Donations may be made to the Alzheimer Society, Mental Health and Addictions or a charity of choice.

Fred, who had been battling Alzheimer’s disease, received excellent and compassionate care in his final years from the staff and volunteers at the Queens Manor, where his wife, Rose, also resides. Fred will be deeply missed and fondly remembered by his loving wife & family. We are thankful to Fred’s family physician, Dr. Ernest, and the staff at Chandlers’ Funeral Home. Online condolences may be made below.
