Evelyn “Ellis” Anthony passed away on August 11, 2024 at Queens Manor, Liverpool. She was 88.
Born in Liverpool, NS, Ellis was the daughter of the late Lovett and Evelyn (Whynot) Malone.
Ellis lived her entire life in Liverpool. She worked at Stedman’s Store behind the candy counter and left there to work in the office at Queens County Dairy. She worked there until the business was closed by Twin Cities Dairy. She then worked at West End Grocery, doing the bookkeeping and working on the counter. She loved to joke around with people and make them laugh. She had always done income tax returns for family and friends and went to work at H&R Block as a tax preparer. She later became part owner in the franchise with two friends.
She was affectionately known as “Nanny Ellis” by some children who adored her. She is the last surviving member of her family.
She leaves behind her daughter Evie (Barrie) Clark, grandsons Adam Clark and Nick Dexter, stepson Paul (Sandra) Anthony, their children and grandchildren, many nieces and nephews.
She was predeceased by her daughter Joanne (Dexter), her husband, Smith Anthony, her sister, Joyce (Keans), her brothers Arthur, Archie, Lovett, Hibbert and Gordon.
Cremation has taken place under the direction of Chandlers’ Funeral Home, Liverpool, NS. A graveside funeral service will be held at Zion United Cemetery, Payzant Street, Liverpool on Monday, August 19, 2024 at 1:00 p.m., Reverend Judy Cross officiating.
No flowers by request. Ellis was very proud of our veterans. Donations in her memory may be made to Mersey Branch #38, Royal Canadian Legion, Liverpool.
We would like to express our deep gratitude to the nursing staff at Queens Manor who gave her exceptional care, especially at the end. We are thankful to all the staff who made her stay better.
