Elizabeth Ann Parks

d. October 22, 2024

Parks, Elizabeth Ann, age 88, of East Port Medway, Queens County passed away peacefully Tuesday, October 22nd, 2024, at Queens General Hospital with family by her side.

Betty was born in Charleston, Queens County the eldest daughter of the late Alfred and Francis Schnare.

Betty worked in her early teen years at Dell Crocker’s store to earn money to go to secretarial school in Halifax. However, a young Donald Parks caught her eye and so began a courtship and marriage of 60 years. Betty became a homemaker, caring for her in-laws, her grandmother, and some very special children who became a second family.

Betty was never idle. She loved her volunteer work, being active with the United Church Women, Mill Village Fireman’s Auxiliary, Bethany United Church, East Port Medway Hall, East Port Medway Community Cemetery and the Young at Heart Senior’s Group. She loved to knit, crochet, sew, bake and make crafts. You never left her house without some treats to take home as her freezer was always full.

Betty found great joy in volunteering, but her greatest pride was watching and nurturing her three grandchildren as they grew into young adults (also known as spoiling them).

Betty is survived by daughter, Ann (Allan) Smith, Brooklyn, son Christopher Parks (Charleigh), Liverpool, grandchildren, Staci Smith (Justin), Sonia Smith (Alex), and Dakota Parks (Paige), sister Maxine Rafuse, and brother William Schnare.

Betty was predeceased by husband Donald.

Service will be held on Wednesday, October 30th 2024 at 11:00am at Chandler’s Funeral Home in Liverpool. A private family burial will take place at a later time. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Queens General Hospital Foundation or a charity of your choice. Online condolences may be made below.

Our family would like to thank each and every one for coming to celebrate Mom’s life. Our family is appreciative of the cards, phone calls, treats, flowers, and visits given to Mom and us during her hospital stay. We cannot thank the staff at Queens General Hospital enough. Each and every one of you touched Mom’s heart; your medical and personal attention has touched us deeply. We’d also like to acknowledge and thank EHS, and the staff at Chandlers Funeral Home. As Mom said frequently, “Be grateful for today. We don’t know what tomorrow will bring”.
