Croft, Lydia C. , 86 of Riverdale, Queens Co. , passed away quietly on Oct. 21, 2010 at South Shore Regional Hospital, Bridgewater.
Born in Riverdale, she was the daughter of the late Henry Osmond and Annie Sophia (Hirtle) Croft.
Perhaps best remembered for her sharp wit and polished social graces, Lydia touched the lives and hearts of many through her roles as homemaker, school bus driver and cook. Her love of the outdoors afforded her great success in hunting and fishing and her fly tying skills were enjoyed by (among others) actor Robert Young and Queen Elizabeth II. In addition to helping raise two family generations, Lydia was both a Cancer survivor and a self-taught reader, testaments to her strength of character and will.
Lydia is survived by her son Alex (Amy) Croft of Riverdale, daughter Audrey Croft-Spencer, Melbourne Florida, grandsons Jason (Catherine) Croft, Truro, and Patrick (Catherine) Spencer, USA. Grandaughter Lydia Spencer, Florida , and four great grandchildren.
She was predeceased by her husband Perry Croft .
Cremation has taken place under the direction of Chandlers’ Funeral Home, Liverpool with a private family service at a later date. Donations may be made to the Canadian Cancer Society or the Canadian Diabetes Association. Online condolences may be made at www.chandlersfuneral.com.
