COOK – Onita Gertrude, 93, of Brooklyn, Queens County, passed away peacefully in Queens Manor, Liverpool on Monday, June 13, 2016.
Born in East Port Medway, Queens County, she was a daughter of the late William and Maisie (Cahoon) Wamboldt.
Onita served as Brooklyn’s post mistress for eleven years and worked for home care. She will be fondly remembered for her passion for jewelry and fashion. She was all about the “bling” as well as her talent for singing. She loved to spend time with her friends and especially her family.
She is survived by her daughters Fran (Graham) Gordon of Brooklyn; Karen (Ron) Roy of Liverpool and Pat Laing of Bridgewater. 8 grandchildren, 15 great grandchildren and 1 great great grandchild. Her sister Vera Parks of Dartmouth.
She was predeceased by her first husband George Ells, her second husband Irving Cook; her son Wayne, her grandson Wade, her sisters Edith, Etta, Frances and Sadie and her brothers Edward, Adrian, Stanley, Maurice and Keith.
Visitation will be Friday, June 17, 2016 from 7 until 9 p.m. in Chandlers’ Funeral Chapel, Liverpool. A private family graveside service will be held at a later date. Family flowers only, donations may be made to Queens Manor, Liverpool. Online condolences may be made to www.chandlersfuneral.com
