COLP – Beverley Charles, age 87, of Beach Meadows, Queens County, passed away Saturday, September 30, 2023, in Queens General Hospital, Liverpool, NS.
Born in Liverpool, Bev was a son of the late Sidney and Mossie (Colp) Colp.
The Patriarch of Beach Meadows has passed and what a character he was! Bev’s mission in life was always to make one laugh. Bev was the community pig butcher, made the best snowballs, felt the importance of teaching his children how to tie a tie and change a flat tire before they left home.
Bev was known for the delicious omelets he made for Betty on Saturdays. He was proud to tell even strangers that he was married for 65 years. He took the most enjoyment spending time with family; recently experiencing much joy with his weekend visits from great granddaughter Amelia.
Bev’s interests sustained him during his almost 30 years of retirement from Bowater Mersey. He enjoyed tinkering in his workshop making birdhouses, foot stools and bedside tables to name a few. He looked forward to trips on his bike with friends to Laconia, New Hampshire and also to Wharf Rat Rallies in Digby. Bev enjoyed four wheeling trips which included Betty until she was spilled into a mud hole!
He loved being on the water in his boat; many years of lobstering, hand lining and just enjoyed driving at full speed for fun. Bev dipped kayaks on the Medway River and smoked them himself. A delicious meal was served. He raised his family off the land with a large vegetable garden, chickens, pigs, along with freshly caught fish.
Together Bev and Betty enjoyed thirteen cruises; Alaska being their favorite. Lastly, Bev enjoyed sky diving trips with his granddaughter Kennedy and was also known as a “Christmas baby” and being very accident prone!
Bev is survived by his wife Betty Jean; his daughters Karen Colp of Halifax; Karalee Kromko of Mader’s Cove; his sons Kevin (Joanne) and Kendell (Denise Lowe), both of Beach Meadows. Grandchildren Kayleigh Colp, Kyle Colp, Steven Kromko (Morgan) and Kennedy Colp (Ryan Harding). Great grandchildren Kaylin Lavender, Lindsey and Miranda Robart, Landon Colp, Sophia and Amelia Kromko.
Besides his parents, Bev was predeceased by his brother Paris and daughter in law Karla.
