The family of Joan Chandler is deeply saddened by her passing on Sunday, January 3, 2016 at the age of 82. Joan leaves her beloved husband, David, her three children: Debra (Geoff Foulds), Kelly (Randy Blair) and Craig (Lesley Hinton) and her seven grandchildren, Drew and Ben Blair, Hannah and Devlin Foulds, and Reden, Caleb and Phebe Chandler. She will be sorely missed by her sister Janet (Ronald Maddigan), her cousins, nieces and nephews, and her many friends.
Joan was born in Bridgewater to Max and Olive (Publicover) Haughan. Her family moved to Liverpool in Grade 7, where Joan met David. They celebrated 59 years of marriage in October 2015.
For over 50 years she volunteered with numerous organizations and causes, including managing the Heart & Stroke campaign for Queens County for 10 years.
Music was an important part of Joan’s life. She loved to play the piano, and she sang in the Zion United Church choir, in several Winds of Change productions, and other events. She was an avid sports fan, following her favourites in baseball, curling and tennis. Joan and David loved to travel, and she and David made numerous trips to Europe over the years, making many close friends along the way.
Joan was a woman of great heart, who touched many lives with her love, laughter, and no-nonsense approach.
Visitation will be Wednesday, January 6, 2016 from 7–9 pm and funeral service will be held at 2 pm on Thursday, January 7, 2016 both in Chandlers’ Funeral Chapel, 91 Union Street, Liverpool. Lay Minister Peter Anthony officiating. Graveside service and celebration to follow during the summer. No flowers by request, donations may be made to the Heart and Stroke Foundation, Canadian Diabetes Association or the Queens General Hospital Foundation.
