Carol Ann Beattie

Beattie, Carol Ann, 63, of Dartmouth NS passed away on August 26, 2023 at the Victoria General Hospital, Halifax.
Born in Liverpool, Carol was the daughter of W. Forbes and Elizabeth (Williams) Kennedy.
After obtaining a degree in Health Studies from Waterloo University, Carol moved to Yellowknife NT where she met her husband, Freddie. They were married in Inuvik NT in 1984. Ever looking for adventure, Carol and Freddie moved to Atlanta, Georgia where Carol attended Emory University and obtained a degree as an Ophthalmic Technologist/Orthoptist.
Her career took her and Freddie to Buffalo, Hawaii, and ultimately home to Nova Scotia where she worked for over 20 years at the VG Eye Care Centre.
Carol was the quiet one of the family but always observing what was going on. The family story is that Carol didn’t start talking until she was 3 years old and when she did, she spoke in full sentences. The reason given was that her older siblings were always eager to fill in the words for her.
Over the years Carol explored many interests and activities including the bagpipes, curling, lawn bowling, golf, bridge, and gardening. She was generous with the bounty from her garden, especially the garlic.
Carol is survived by her husband of 39 years, Freddie, sisters Karen (Charles) McGee of Liverpool and Heather (Dean) Clarke of Vernon BC, and brothers Bill (Linda) Kennedy of Vernon BC and Steven Kennedy of Nelson BC and many nieces and nephews.
Besides her parents, Carol was predeceased by her sister, Kathy and nephews, Adam, and Joshua.
Cremation has taken place under the direction of Chandlers’ Funeral Home, Liverpool, NS. At Carol’s request, there will be no funeral service. Donations may be made to Elder Dogs Canada, Feed Nova Scotia, or a charity of your choice. Online condolences may be made to www.chandlersfuneral.com.
We will miss your quiet humour and insightful observations of people and events. When you see a murmuration think “Carol would have liked that”.
Thank you to the Nova Scotia Health Palliative Care team and the nurses and doctors at the Palliative Care unit at the VG Hospital for their care of Carol these past months.
