With great sadness, the family of Wayne Hanley, 73, announce his passing at Queens General Hospital, Liverpool on January 29, 2025 after a long , courageous battle with cancer.
Wayne was born in Caledonia, Queens County; a son of Inez I. (Zwicker) (Hanley) Lohnes and the late Basil E. Hanley.
Wayne was an auto and heavy truck mechanic working at age 12 with his father on weekends. He was a top-notch problem solver, a jack of all trades and one of the best mechanics around. In his early years, he was a owner and operator of service stations, his own dump truck and garage. Later on, he was supervisor of busing for Queens School Board, mechanic and snow plow operator with the Region of Queens Municipality and lastly as a mechanic for Ingram’s Automotive in Liverpool.
Wayne was a quiet man, had a strong work ethic and offered his help and knowledge when needed. He was honest and reliable. He worked hard to provide a good life for his family. He was a proud father and enjoyed being a grandfather. He was the #1 hockey fan and supporter to his three grandchildren traveling on weekends to rinks all over Nova Scotia and sometimes to PEI and New Brunswick.
Wayne is survived by his high school sweetheart of 53 years Nancy (Wells); his daughter Bridgette of Liverpool and his son Brian (Melanie) of Windsor, NS. His grandchildren Jillian, Max and Eric. His sisters Sandy McLeod of Liverpool, Ns; Julie (Alan) MacDougall of Oakfield, NS; Debbie (Freddie) Nodding of Lunenburg, NS; Brother Jim (Nancy) of Port Mouton, Ns. His mother Inez (Ralph) Lohnes of Liverpool, NS. His step mother Helen Hanley of Halifax, NS. Brother in law Jeff (Pam) Wells of Bridgewater, NS. His cat Sissy and his dog Gia.
Besides his father, Wayne was predeceased by his brother Davey, his brother in law Greg Wells and his parents in law Arthur and Loretta Wells.
Cremation has taken place under the direction of Chandlers’ Funeral Home, Liverpool, NS. A graveside funeral servicewill be held at a later date. Donations may be made to any charity. Online condolences may be made below.
