Barry Wayne MacBride

d. February 26, 2025

It is with profound sadness that the family of Barry Wayne MacBride, 72, formerly of Bridgewater, announce his passing on Wednesday, February 26, 2025 with his brother Garth and sister-in-law Sherri by his side.

Barry was born in Caledonia, Queens County, a son of the late Allison and Arlene (Rawding) MacBride.

Barry was the type of man who was REAL. He loved hearing jokes and telling them to anyone who would listen. The outdoors was his favourite place to be any time of the year. Throughout the years, Barry reaped the benefits of everything Mother Nature had to offer, whether it be working on the many acres of land that he and his brother had inherited or, better yet, fishing, hunting, snow mobiling with his buddies, boating, canoeing, camping, 4-wheeling, going touring on his side by side or seadooing on the lake. He even took flying lessons in Greenwood, Annapolis County. Barry loved music, played the guitar and was a very smooth dancer.

His life granted him the skills, abilities and opportunity to build a home in Conquerall Mills, a modest camp on the Mersey River, and later a much updated cabin on Fisher Lake. Barry was very fortunate to be surrounded by many friends who helped him with every task he put his mind to.

Although he studied Marine Diesel at NSCC in Bridgewater his interests changed and he worked for forty plus years at Michelin Tire, Bridgewater becoming a supervisor prior to retirement. His capabilities and understanding of Michelin took him to South Carolina for a year where he would learn many more important lessons. Barry enjoyed all the experiences his job offered until he retired. He enjoyed his retirement as he had more time to “play” with his many “toys”. However, he still had one last dream-to build a home on Molega Lake, which he did and always referred to it as his “dream home”.

Life was good and Barry was content until 2024 when life “took a turn” and he had to sacrifice all he had worked for and move from his dream home to Bridgewater, closer to his brother and sister-in-law. Soon thereafter Barry was diagnosed with colorectal cancer and spent a lengthy stay at SSRH, Bridgewater. During his long, dark days Barry found himself seeking peace more than anything else. He chose to have assisted dying by MAID. On February 26, 2025, along with many who had visited him to help fill the long days, we said our final goodbyes. Anyone who knew Barry accepted his strengths and weaknesses and loved him for being the authentic man he was. On more than one occasion Barry announced that he had lived a good life and was able to check every box on his bucket list. What a gift.

He is survived by his sisters, Doreen (John) Holdright and Joanne (Stephen) Harnett; brother, Garth (Sherri), as well as several nieces and nephews.

Cremation has taken place under the direction of Chandlers’ Funeral Home, Liverpool. There will be no service at Barry’s request. Online condolences may be made below.

The family wishes to thank all the doctors, nurses, the palliative care team, Renata Bennett and all the staff at SSRH for the exceptional care given to our loved one, Barry MacBride. Thank-you to all of his friends who spent some rather dark hours with Barry while he would drink his much loved coffee and devour boxes of chocolates and reminisce about days gone by. Your light will continue to shine on in each of us as we choose to focus on and remember the good times we all shared. Rest in peace Barry. Your earthly commitments have been accomplished and yes - you did it, Your Way.
