Davis, Alan Norwood - 68 ; Summerville Centre, NS

It is with heavy hearts that we announce the passing of our beloved husband, father, brother, uncle and friend.

Alan was born in Liverpool and grew up in Summerville. After graduating LRHS, he went on to attend UNB taking Forestry. In the early 70’s he ventured outside of Nova Scotia to Alberta working various jobs in the oil industry but Nova Scotia and Queens County specifically always called him back. It was there he met and married his soul mate June. Together they bought their home in Summerville renovated it and opened a Bed and Breakfast in 1991. They would start to expand their business in the coming years, building a total of five chalets on the property operating as Summerville Beach Retreat through the present day.

Alan was a jack of all trades when it came to maintaining them and throughout the years passed this trait onto his son, Lucas. They rented to tourists and often hosted the same guests and families over many years. Many of these guests grew to become like family. Alan and June’s home was often a welcome gathering place for friends and family. Those that knew Alan would know he was always quick to chime in with a comment or bit of quick wit getting a response across the room.

Alan was a huge hockey fan and loved The Toronto Maple Leafs. He was very young when they won the Stanley Cup but he never gave up hope that the next year would be the year they raised it again. He also looked forward to watching the Toronto Blue Jays every year and hoping they could rally their way through the Fall.

In his earlier years he played broomball and Mersey hockey and always loved hosting the end of the year hockey parties. Later on in life, he took up golf and became a member of White Point Golf Club where he grew to love the game. He played as often as he could and looked forward to men’s night every Wednesday. He passed on his love for both the game of hockey and golf to Lucas. He found himself coaching many of Lucas’ hockey teams throughout the years and being involved in the Minor Hockey community. Alan shared many of his passions with Lucas including being an avid hunter, he looked forward for the fall every year and their trips to their hunting camp.

Alan is survived by his wife, June Lohnes-Davis, son, Lucas (Jordan), Halifax, brothers, Carl (Marie), Summerville Centre, Eric (Ruby) Mersey Point, sisters, Gloria (Clarence) Johnson, Kingston, Goldie Davis, Halifax, Linda (Sylvio) David, Cole Harbour, Sharon Davis, Halifax, and sister-in-law Elizabeth (Arnold) Whynot, East Berlin. In addition, he is survived by eleven nieces & nephews and their families. He also leaves behind his beloved duck toller, Copper, who was never far from Alan’s side.

Alan is predeceased by his mother, Serena (Broughm), father, Carl Davis and infant sister, Karen.

Alan has been cremated under the direction of Chandlers’ Funeral Home, Liverpool, NS and he had expressed his wish for no funeral. There will be a gathering of friends and family to be held at a later date. Online condolences may be made below. Donations in lieu of flowers may be made in Alan’s name to the Canadian Cancer Society or SPCA.

June and Lucas would like to send a special thank you to all of Al’s Doctors over the years.
